Where do you come down? I’m not asking if you worship Satan. In business do you have a social duty or should the pursuit of profit be your blind ambition?
Many believe that the profit motive should be the sole driving force in business and that everything else will simply work out for the best. The marketplace will be the judge.
Others believe that business has an obligation to improve the lives of people along the way. Their reasoning is that the marketplace too often favors a path that harms some as it rewards others.
Isn’t it government’s job to assure that markets work for the greater good, while protecting the freedom of enterprise? Regulations that curb pollution, prevent monopolies, ban child labor, and promote equal pay are just some examples of where we all benefit when the economy is fair and just.
